CREST 2022 - Keynote Talk - Dr. Jennifer E. Decker
Jennifer E. Decker received B.Sc. in Honours Physics from University of Waterloo and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physics from Université Laval, Québec City. She joined the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) Institute for National Measurement Standards in 1992 and became known for her research on optical measurement science, standards and measurement uncertainty evaluation. She is also experienced in calibration laboratory assessment and Quality System accreditation. Dr. Decker assumed various leadership roles in international measurement science, and served on the Executive of the Canadian Advisory Committee to the International Standards Organization (ISO) during the early development of international policy and technical committees for nanotechnology. She has international research experience as a Fellow of the German Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Foundation as guest researcher at the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB Braunschweig) and represented AvH as a Canadian Humboldt Ambassador Scientist. During 2011-2015, Dr. Decker served with Canadian Global Affairs as Counsellor, Science and Technology at the Embassy of Canada in Berlin, Germany. Upon returning to NRC in the Office of the Vice President, Emerging Technologies she undertook various roles involved in development and operationalization of research collaboration partnerships, in addition to leading women in STEM initiatives. She served as Executive Advisor (Chief of Staff) to the NRC Chief Digital Research Officer prior to taking up the position of Consul and Principal Advisor at NRC Germany, co-located at the Canadian Consulate in Munich.
