X-Ray Crystallography Virtual Tour w/ Dr. Sara Andres
“The Atomic Structures Within”

Proteins are the atomic machinery that keep us and all other living organisms alive. Using a technique called x-ray crystallography, we can actually see what these proteins look like and how carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and other atoms come together into 3D structures to work. In this workshop, we’ll take you on a virtual tour of our x-ray facility to show you how we experimentally determine these structures, and then talk about how protein structures affects function, using examples of proteins important to our very existence.

FOR PARTICIPANTS: You can download the program “PyMol” at this site: if you want to try it out during the workshop while we go through it. This is optional, not required for participating in this workshop.
