Past and contemporary dimensions of racial capitalism: dialectics of freedom, violence, and reproductive labour
This panel examines past and contemporary dimensions of racial capitalism. The speakers will engage with the writings of Walter Rodney and C.L. R. James, among others. The discussion will revolve around the link between violence and racial capitalism (and its role in the constitution of the state, especially in its populist iteration), class dimensions and CLR James’ dialectic of freedom, colonial extractivism, and the politics of reproductive labour.
