Understanding Health Issues for Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+
Drawing on examples from research, community organizing and frontline practice, this session will share knowledge aimed at informing individual and collective efforts to ensure culturally safe access to healthcare and provide a better understanding of health issues for Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+.

Target Audience: Physicians, Nurses, Rehabilitation Science Faculty, Social Workers, Other Health Care Professionals, Students, Residents, Trainees, Interns, Mental Health Professionals, Other Faculty Members, Health Care Staff, University Staff, All Primary Health Care Providers

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Gain understanding of the diversity of Two-Spirit roles and identities within Indigenous cultures
• Reflect on our understanding of and contributions toward cultural safety for Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ peoples as health care and health education professionals
• Discuss the impacts of colonization on Indigenous people's gender roles and sexuality
• Explain social determinants of Indigenous people's health as it pertains to the experience of Indigenous lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and Two-Spirit people
